Got Bill Daniel’s Mostly True in yesterday, Bozo Texino is playing on the store TV and just got this in the mail.

“These Portraits are stencils cut directly into 5″ x 7″ prints from 35mm film, then inked black to mimic the old Polaroid technique of Caustic Jelly Post, for stamp sheet reproduction. The subjects were brave to submit to the blinding flash and up close distortion.” - buZ blurr

For more of his recent work check out his Flickr page at http://flickr.com/photos/go-devil/

If you’re not familiar with him check out this great interview over at North Bank Fred’s site (this same interview is also in the Bill Daniel book which is a must have).

Definitely worth bookmarking, the North Bank Fred site has hobo stories, articles, and photo galleries of trains, yards, hobo graffiti, etc. Here’s the gallery dedicated to buZ blurr’s freight train graffiti.

A bit premature but since this whole post is about him I think I should mention that we’ll be hosting buZ blurr here at Babylon Falling in September for an artshow/talk/book signing. Don’t sleep.

On The Nightstand Once Again

The In Your Face Basketball Book - When I lived in New York I used to volunteer at Housing Works bookstore (one of the dopest bookstores in the country) and we would get first dibs on the books before they hit the floor. This was one of the first and remains the greatest of the books I got from Housing Works. This book deserves its own post so I’ll just say that it is pure comic relief before I go to sleep. Bobbito is the perfect candidate to do an updated version of this book.

The Confessions of Nat Turner - William Styron - I can never get the right momentum with this book. Styron’s chapters are too long for nighttime reading. Otherwise a beautifully written novel about Nat Turner and what is generally thought to be the only successful slave rebellion in the US.

Novels in Three Lines - Still here. Hal your copy is in the mail.

The Trail of the Tramp - Leon Ray Livingston - Also known as A-No. 1, Lee Marvin played a character based on Leon Ray Livinston’s life in Emperor of the North (dope film). As a side note, Leon Ray Livingston was born here in San Francisco. Trail of the Tramp is one of the many hobo classics that we sell in the store. Dope so far.

In America - Susan Sontag - This is next on Kensey’s list. Not pictured but she’s currently reading Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee and loves it.

Nat Turner Volume 1 - Kyle Baker - I picked this up at Comix Experience over on Divisadero. It’s currently out of print but will be re-released in June/July. We carry volume 2 in the store. Definitely worth picking up if you have even a passing interest in Nat Turner.

Top 10 Book 1 - Alan Moore - About to start this. Guaranteed to be great as is everything Alan Moore touches.

National Geographic, July 1989 - Bi-centennial of French Revolution - Some good articles in here but it smells like a cheap motel so it will go out with the trash tonight.

The Rickford Files - Classic New York Photographs - Ricky Powell - Used to catch Rappin with the Rickster on channel 57 when we were in New York and have been rediscovering how funny Ricky Powell is reading the old Ego Trip columns. Always funny, always dope photography, I was glad to see this languishing on the shelves of Dog Eared Books in the Mission. Classic book.

The homey Tone Tank (Nuk Fam, Scum Life, Iller Than Theirs, etc) put up this free ep on his website. Music to get you through the day. Currently playing in the store. Here’s what he had to say…

“I made this EP. My friends Doc Strange, Scott Thorough, and J.Howells Werthman made me a bunch of beats out of old punk records I gave them (Doc supplied his own, he’s autonomous like that).

Anyway, here it is:
