A few shots from the book…

Just started It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis last night. It’s essentially about the possibility of Fascism taking hold here in the US. A topic that is a constant source of argument here in the store. Very good so far.
Kensey (dope photo) is reading the Mandarins by Simone De Beauvoir. She says it’s “deck”.
Main Currents of Marxism is indispensable. Always on the night stand. Great book to pick up and read anytime from any page.
Nations and Nationalism is a book I pick up every now and again. Essential reading.
Started but wasn’t in the mood for Blindness by Saramago. Will be next.
The Malefakis book I don’t think is in print anymore but is a great book for understanding the roots of the Spanish Civil War. It goes into insane statistical depth but is still highly readable.
Print magazine is always good but way too expensive.
Got stuck on this volume of The Invisibles. Still recommend this series with no hesitation. The castration sequence left an indelible gash in my brain.
Dust - Can’t escape it.
Bought some books, ate at the most luxurious grocery store/restaurant I’ve ever been to, drove a lot, saw a celebrity (confirmed by looking at his receipt-too minor to mention), went to the beach, saw Bukowski’s old neighborhood, and survived a suspicious comment at LAX. Here’s the trip report in pictures as seen through Matt’s eyes.

Kensey’s expression says it all.

Kia Sedona (Tan). We roll nothing less.

Affordable titles for people like me.

Ultimate respect to the folks at Cahill Rare Books. I appreciate the words of wisdom as well as the encouragement. It’s folks like you why I love bookselling.

5124 De Longpre Avenue.
“Charles Bukowski lived at 5124 De Longpre from 1963 to 1974. It was during this time that many pivotal events occured in his writing career, namely; the beginning of his partnership with Black Sparrow Press, the writing and publishing of his first novel Post Office, his first public poetry reading, and the “research” which would later become his novel Women. It was also during this period that Bukowski begain to attain notoriety as a writer, so much so that one neighbor describes his having to sneak out the back door to avoid admirers lingering in the courtyard. The apartment is one of the last vestiges of Bukowski’s Los Angeles - stark, honest, and sometimes beautiful. It’s one of the only places he describes in his books, so noteworthy for their evocative sense of place, that remain faithfull to the time.”

Many thanks to both Emory and Richard for taking the time out to come through and spread knowledge. Emory thank you for exhibiting your artwork here at Babylon Falling. Billy X from It’s About Time, Claude from The Freedom Archives, couldn’t have happened without your help. History definitely is not dead. Respect to everyone that came out…community over gallery all day.
The exhibition will be up for the duration of the month and we still have a few signed copies of the book available in the store, as well as some signed prints.
Kensey, Carrie, Chris, Matt, Red, Alex…crucial.
